Size Guide

The Busto & SunHat Sizing Guide

A finely made hat should feel like it was made just for you—because it was. Whether you’re designing your first custom piece or shopping for a ready-to-wear style, getting the right size is the first step to a perfect fit.

How to Measure Your Head for a Busto & Sun Hat

You don’t need any fancy equipment—just a bit of string, a tape measure, and a moment in front of the mirror.

Step 1: Wrap It Up

Use a soft measuring tape (or string and a ruler) and gently wrap it around your head—about one finger’s width above your ears and eyebrows. That’s where your hat will sit. Make sure the tape is snug but not tight. Think “comfortably secure,” not “cinched.”

Step 2: Mark and Measure

If using string, pinch or mark where the ends meet, then lay it flat against a ruler. Note your measurement in inches or centimeters.

Step 3: Find Your Size

Use the chart above to match your measurement to a standard hat size. If you’re between sizes or unsure, we recommend sizing up slightly—especially for custom orders, where we can fine-tune the fit.

Fit Tips from the Workshop

  • Feel First: Fit is personal. Some folks like a firm hug, others a soft perch. Trust how it feels.
  • Hair Matters: Big curls, fresh blowouts, or shaved sides can all influence your fit. Consider how you wear your hair most often.
  • Materials Vary: Felt, straw, and leather behave differently over time. Our team considers material shrinkage and give when building your hat.
  • When in Doubt: We’re here to help. If you’re not sure, schedule a virtual consultation—we’ll walk you through it.
